The pandemic has engulfed the whole world. The richest to poor economies and the best health systems of the world are helpless to handle the disastrous consequences. Currently US has the highest ratio of the infected population which is increasing day by day. American authority has warned about the hard time that could be observed in the upcoming two weeks.
The total active cases of infected people according to worldometer are 1,366,685 with recovered 294,088 and total deaths worldwide are 76,551. The death rate is increasing particularly in Europe and America that are worst hitted by the pandemic.
If we have a look at few hard hit countries US has surpassed above all in total number of infected cases. Total active cases in US are 370,397 the new cases reported today are 3,393 and total number of deaths are 11,042. After US Spain has highest number of infected people the total number of infected people are 140,510, number of deaths are 13,798 and new cases reported today are 3,835. In Italy, Germany and France new Cases are being reported however these countries are in strict lockdown till date.
However the ratio of new reported cases has also declined but in spain its in high ratio. Europe is experiencing complete lockdown. The outcomes are less cases and there is ray of hope. Iran also hit hard with the pandemic and ranked among highly infected countries, till now active cases are 62,589, new cases reported today are 2,089 and total deaths till now are 3,872.
As far as middle east is concerned the outbreak seems quite controlled over there. In UAE the total number of active cases are 2,076 with 11 deaths and a few new cases are being reported. In Saudi Arabia total number of active cases are 2,795 with new cases reported 190 and total death till date are 41 Which shows some similar statistics as Pakistan. The whole region is not as much infected as it has engulfed Europe and America.
As far as Pakistan is concerned total number if active cases are 4,004 in which new reported cases are 238 and number of deaths are 55. The statistics shows that the outbreak is not that much. Some expert are of the opinion that there could be three reasons of this much low statistics.
As Pakistan is a developing country and we had a long fight with Malaria that could be reason that we have build immunity to be less infected or if infected it could be less lethal for us. The other reason could be environment that is dry and hot and these days its moderate. The third reason could be BCG vaccine that may b act as a shield to fight the pandemic.
These reasons could be optimist to some extent but we cannot ignore the fact we do not have massive testing kits and our public is much ignorant to go for an exposure or test. The ongoing lockdown could be a contributory factor to reduce the outbreak of COVID-19. The role of our law enforcement agencies is admirable in this regard.
Pakistan armed forces and other law enforcement organisations such as police rangers are standby to reduce public gatherings and implementation of social distancing at the places that are important to visit such as food shops grocery etc. So the outcome of lockdown is helpful in reducing the outbreak and lessen the infected statistics.
If we compare the whole scenario one thing is clear that the countries who go for a strict lockdown they controlled it effectively such as china. On the other hand US and Europe did not favoured the lockdown earlier but later when the cases surpasses and its beyond control they went for lockdown.
The biggest question is as far as the developed countries are concerned lockdown could be affordable for a considerable period of time but for developing countries like Pakistan, its not that easy. The only solution is we need to aware and understand the precautionary measures to ensure our and others safety. Social distancing is the key solution with protective masks and disinfected practises.
